To Buy or not to Buy?

When faced with a new trend, this is the question every fabulous poor girl is faced with. You must weigh your options carefully. To construct the perfect, affordable closet, you have to buy pieces that can last you years and be reinvented again and again.

One trend you might question is the clutch trend. Oversized or envelope clutches are very fabulous right now, but how much should you invest in them?

You have to look at their functionality. Fashion is amazing because it is both functional and artistic. Do clutches work for your lifestyle? Would you ever actually use it or take it out? They aren’t a necessary bag, like a regular shoulder or cross-body, but they are cute, and great for a night out. Their smaller size and usual lack of handles makes them less functional than their sister bags, though.

So, opt for investing in just one or two (maybe one day, one evening) to spruce up your wardrobe. Pick colors that could work with a lot in your wardrobe, and maybe try to find one with an optional handle.

Overall, this isn’t a trend you want to shell out big bucks for. But it is one that could update your wardrobe and help make you feel fabulous.

I Spy Something Fabulous

I spy a new little trend approaching. Wearable in all seasons (although I think late summer/early fall is when it’ll look best), this trend is a classic: snakeskin. This is one of the few animal prints that doesn’t make me cringe. It’s muted and daring at the same time – a little dash of fabulous to complete any outfit. I love the trend on shoes the most. How are you going to incorporate some snakeskin into your wardrobe for fall?

My Fabulous Five for Fashion Cravings

There are so many things out there to digest and take in when it comes to fashion – blogs, magazines, email newsletters, websites. So I decided to try to narrow it down to my fabulous five, that you might find helpful.

1) Harper’s Bazaar magazine & website.

I will always be a Harper’s girl. I used to get Vogue, but for whatever reason, I just like Harper’s more. It’s a completely fabulous mag filled to the brim with great inspiration and great articles on fabulous people. Just read through the latest edition and you’ll instantly know all the current trends.

My favorite part: The schedule run-down they have from different designers each month. It’s so interesting to see what the creators of fashion actually do everyday.

2) The Rachel Zoe Newsletter.

So I only recently signed up for this, but I do love Rachel Zoe, and her daily email newsletter does not disappointment. You can choose to get one about accessories, beauty, and fashion, or all three! This is even budget-friendly – while it does feature high-priced, fabulous brands, there is always a “parallel universe” selection that is priced just right for any fabulous girl’s wallet.

3) White Girl Problems – blog and newsletter. and Twitter.

Okay, so this is sorta just for laughs. But every fabulous girl needs a fabulous laugh once in a while, doesn’t she? If you’re in need of some weekly comic relief, this is the most fabulous way to go.

4) My Style Pill.

This is a really great fashion blog. I love looking at her fabulous outfits and getting ideas of how to work the newest trends. Bonus – she wears a mix of high and low fashion!

5) Shopping.

The good ole’ do-it-yourself-way. I get a lot of my ideas and a lot of my inspiration from just online shopping and walking around the mall. After a while, you can even guess what the trends are without even opening a fashion mag. The best part – you choose what stores/websites you look at, so you can choose ones you know you can afford. Then, you can actually get your fabulous finds. 🙂

So there you have it, my fabulous five. But the most important thing to remember when searching for the perfect outfit for the season – don’t be afraid to be fabulous!

Dolce & Gabbana

Now, the fabulous D&G collection for 2012 is definitely nowhere near my budget, but hey, a girl still has to dream. I find this collection delightfully inspiring and happy-inducing. When I first saw this ad in my Harper’s Bazaar months ago, I immediately had to stop and examine it. It’s just so . . . fabulous. Whoever thought vegetable prints could be chic? And I know some of you may be thinking, Who the hell would wear something with red peppers all over it? (I know Joan Rivers thinks this.) But hey, I’ll wear red peppers everyday if they look this fabulous.

Now, there may not be equally as fabulous vegetable prints out there for us masses to enjoy and consume (excuse the pun), but there are some great bold prints at budget-friendly stores near you.

H&M swimsuit, $24.95

Forever 21 dress, $22.80

Forever 21 heels, $26.80

So go out and grab a great, bold print! There is no such thing as “too much” when it comes to a good print. Don’t be afraid to be fabulous!

This Fabulous Look – for Less

A look from Christian Dior’s Resort 2012 collection.

This is just fabulous. It’s a great look for any girl planning on going out for the night in the summer, or to a fabulous summer wedding. The dress is versatile too; throw a fur coat on in the winter and you’re set.

But, alas, I cannot afford one bracelet from a Dior collection, let along a whole outfit. So let’s see if we can find an affordable (and fabulous) alternative . . .

First off, the dress. While I couldn’t find an affordable one shoulder, I found two great, maxi length white dresses at asos.com, that hug your curves in all the right places. My favorite ($58-good price for a great dress):

Now, onto those shoes. I found these easy sandals for $22.50, and (for shorter girls like me), some great strappy heels for $35.50!

And, finally, the accessories. That clutch (they are all the rage right now) is fabulous. I believe that every girl should have at least one crazy clutch that embodies her perfectly (even if you have no idea what to pair it with). Unfortunately, though, bags (especially detailed clutches) can get pretty pricey. I found a neon pink one for $20.90.

A faux leather, color-blocked one for $17.95.

And finally, I encourage you to stray from the beaten path of this fabulous Dior outfit. The dress is white – this is open territory for you to go onto urbanog.com or forever21.com and pick out the craziest, most fabulous clutch you can find. Here is a great deal I found – a floral clutch on sale for $13.99 (from $45!). I prefer the blue.

And there were far crazier ones out there that I adored.

Now my bigger dilemma is how to find the clear bangles shown here. Normally I borderline detest anything clear or plastic-like, but this is actually chic. It pulls together the modern aesthetic of the look. But, as I said with the clutch, you should experiment and pick crazy bangles that you like. While I couldn’t find anything clear, I did find this on sale for $10.17:

And this is my favorite little fabulous mess of bangles, on sale for $14.98:

Oh, and for her fabulous makeup look: Revlon lipstick, $5 at walmart.com.

And voila, you’re fabulous!
