Newest fashion challenge: Add some sheer to your look while maintaining ladylike elegance and without looking like a fool. How is this possible? Well, the couture runways have certainly given us a plethora of examples. Elie Saab featured skirts that went sheer, as did Valentino and others. Here are a few ways to make this fabulous trend a fabulous reality:

Spring’s supposed to be early this year, so be ready to celebrate that day with a white, sheer maxi skirt ($17, cozbest.com). Pair with a floral crop top ($13, stylemetv.com) for a day in the park, or tuck in a colorful blouse ($30, sheinside.com) and add a belt for a more refined look. Add big cuffs and some leather accents to put a punch of punk in the girly look, and strap on heeled, wooden sandals ($28, makemechic.com) to finish.

To go sheer for a more formal occasion, take a black, sheer, good quality maxi skirt ($77, chicnova.com), and pair with a lacy crop top ($45, Topshop). For work wear, pair with a long-sleeved, black crop top ($20, Nordstrom) to be chic and covered up. Slip on dainty sandals ($50, Zara) and big, colorful jewelry to complete the look.

The floor-length, sheer skirt is a completely attainable look for anyone, and the runway has helped sheer maxis keep their place in the world of trends for this spring. Add a crop top to make your legs look like a giraffe’s (plus, Erika Bearman will totally tell you that crop tops are definitely in style) and some big jewelry to amp up the chic-level, and you’re good to go! Remember, never be afraid to be fabulous!
