What-to-Wear for: Summer Day Trip!

One of my favorite parts about summer is that there is so much more time to just get away. Road trips, day trips, weekend getaways, whatever it is you prefer, it’s always a great experience to just explore a new place with old friends. The biggest downside: so much time in the car. The only reason that’s really a problem is because it’s uncomfortable. Picking just the right outfit that’s cute, ready for any weather, and that you can wear for hours in a cramped space without wanting to take it off is hard. Here are a few staples to incorporate into your ‘getaway’ wardrobe to help make the ride a little bit smoother:

The t-shirt dress is always a friend. Wear a tight one if you’re confident, a loose one if you’re going to eat/drink a lot, or a maxi one if you’re not that graceful a person. This gray tank dress just yells (irony) “I’m chill!” and a black t-shirt dress is chic without even meaning to be. If you wanted something a bit more formal, try a colored take with some nice ruching. Now it’s time for layering. Step one: throw on a jean vest (bonus points if it’s super faded or acid washed). A cloth green vest thing (I don’t know how to describe the green vest above) is a cool alternative, especially with the gray tank dress. Step two: layer again with a denim jacket or an oversized leather jacket, if you have one. For the more proper yellow dress, I would just layer it with the ultra-casual rain jacket above – I love how cool it’d make the dress look. Next, the shoes. For possibilities of rougher terrain, try combat boots. If you’re going to walk a lot, tie on some sneaks. And if you’re confident that it won’t rain and want to show off your pedicure, wear cute sandals (tip: a t-strap is less likely to dig into your feet and hurt over time than a regular flipflop is). All you need now are some cool summer bangles and a tan fringed backpack – and you’re ready to go, go, go.

Trending Tuesday: Tomboys are Cool

Spring is still in and out (it’s so cold and windy here lately but it’s almost May!), but everyone’s still trying to stay positive and dress like the sun is shining and birds are chirping. My spring style lately has been different than I thought it’d be. Limited because I share a closet in my small dorm room, I mostly just have some transition pieces and a lot of tank tops to work with. So my style has gone towards the tomboy-ish side of things. No flowing maxi skirts for me (I left mine at home!); it’s all about cropped jeans and Keds lookalike sneakers. I’m kinda digging my more laid-back looks, so I thought I’d share some budget-friendly ways to achieve an easy-breezy, casual look.

It all started with me vowing to wear two pairs of sneakers I had bought the spring before more often. Both are from H&M and are Keds-style – one gray and cotton, the other pair blue. I’ve found it fairly easy to incorporate them into my looks, and I can’t help but feel like that cool, casual girl that can be completely dressed down but still look chic. They’re comfortable, they go with a lot, and the best part – they’re cheap. Go for a real pair of Keds for at least $40, or pick cheaper version a la H&M or Charlotte Russe – ranging from $12-$23.

The perfect bottoms to wear with those sneakers – a pair of cropped jeans (preferably destroyed). I have an old pair from Charlotte Russe that get more ripped every season, which I love. Uniqlo has a cool, boyfriend-shaped version for $40, and Mango has some chic options for only $25. Wear white for a nautical look, boyfriend jeans for around town, or a true-blue pair for picnics and summer events.

All you need to complete your look is a cute tank or tee. This is where you let your personality and style shine through. Wear a button-down tank for a more put-together and feminine look, studded or vintage tanks for cool girl vibe, and graphic tees to bring a little more edge. All of these shirts are $25 or less, and you’re sure to find countless others at these stores (especially H&M – I just scored some great tanks there on sale).

Be coo, be casual, and also be fabulous with these great pieces that’ll take you through spring, summer, and fall.

What-to-Wear for: Library Night

It’s only a few weeks into the semester, and you’re already back to the daily grind. Homework, tests, applying to internships, blah, blah, blah… so much to do, so little time to do it in. So how do you stay comfortable while still being cute on your trips to the library? Here’s a fun, cute look to help you stay chic and comfy:

Wear cute, patterned leggings ($21, dorothyperkins.co.uk) with a fun graphic sweatshirt ($25, etsy.com). Add cute booties or these mustache-slippers ($36, boohoo.com) to stay cuddly walking around campus. Throw on an Aztec print backpack ($30, Target) to carry all your things in, and you’re good to go for a night slaving away in the library! Remember, you can look fabulous for any occasion!
